Think of your CIBIL Report as your financial report card. It’s an official record, with data from banks and financial institutions, tracking your loan and credit card management. Just as you’d check your school or college report card for mistakes, Credit Monitoring means regularly reviewing your CIBIL Report for accuracy.

You get one free CIBIL Score and Report annually.

How Your CIBIL Report Gets Updated

Banks and financial institutions send Transunion CIBIL your - loan and credit card payment and account related data. Think of this as your financial report card getting new marks. CIBIL then updates your report within 15-30 days; so latest EMI or credit card payments may take time to reflect on your Transunion CIBIL Report.

What to Watch Out For

When checking your CIBIL Report (like checking for errors on a report card) look for these warning signs:

  • Incorrect Profile Information: Wrong name, date of birth, gender, or ID details like PAN and Aadhar or email address and phone numbers
  • Inaccurate Account Details: Payments not showing, wrong balances, or closed accounts appearing open.
  • Unfamiliar Enquiries: Every loan/card application creates an enquiry. Look out for enquiries or accounts you didn't apply for
  • Same account listed multiple times

What is acceptable

  • Closed loans or cards remain on your CIBIL Report, as reported by the respective banks/financial institutions– it's part of your complete financial history, like past grades on a report card.
  • Loans or credit cards that have been issued but remain unused will still be reflected in your credit report.
  • Loans taken from digital lending platforms: These loans are availed through digital lending platforms, often financed by partner banks or financial institutions. The name appearing on your CIBIL report may be of these partner banks/financial institutions – making the accounts seem unfamiliar.

What to Do When You Find a Mistake

If you spot issues/discrepancy or suspicious activity in your report, CIBIL offers a free, simple dispute process. Here’s how to fix it, just like correcting a report card mistake:

    • Track Your Dispute: Your CIBIL Report will show disputed fields as “Under Dispute.” Track progress on MyCIBIL portal or via email from info@cibildisputesalert.transunion.com. If unresolved within 30 days, you will get RBI-mandated compensation – INR 100 per day of delay from either the bank/financial institution or CIBIL, as applicable

By spotting inaccuracies and using the dispute process, you ensure your CIBIL Report accurately reflects your financial journey, builds lender trust, and helps unlock a secure, successful future.
